windows rt development

The news of Windows RT jailbroken has not yet subsided when another news has started making the rounds. If this one is to be believed it is a very interesting one specially for those users who miss the good old days of Windows 95. A user named Netham45 at the XDA forums has just found a way to port a number of programs on to the Windows RT platform and these include applications such as TightVNC, PuTTy and BOCHS. What this means for Windows RT users? Well Netham45 just created an environment so that you can use Windows 95 on your Surface RT!

In spite of the fact that Netham45 was successful in creating an environment and then successfully installing Windows 95 on the Surface, many of its inherent features including networking still don’t work.

WinBeta’s Zac made a very relevant comment that porting a x86 desktop program to an ARM platform is not the easiest thing to do. One has to really get down and dirty, recompiling the application on a software like Visual Studio in order to make it workable. Needless to say this not recommended for everyone to try. Additionally Windows RT does not have all the required DLL files that should be able to run most Windows 95 programs. So even if the porting is successful running it may be very difficult.
