Ativ Tablet

Samsung’s Ativ Tablet is going to make a debut on AT&T, come November 9th. The Ativ Tablet has the distinct looks of a tablet, and despite the resemblance, Samsung is keeping no stone unturned to market its latest full fledged PC running Windows 8 at a price point of $799.99. At that price the Ativ Smart PC is going to cost $300 more than even the flagship Microsoft Surface RT Tablet. However the Ativ has the distinct advantage of being backward compatible with all of Windows’ old and new software, something that even the Surface RT does not have.

Irrespective of the pricing, the 1.5 GHz Intel Atom chipset is going to label the Ativ as a low end entry for Samsung. There are plenty of better specs available in the market and even Samsung has a better model, the Ativ tablet Pro. It has a 1080p resolution and a distinctly faster processor. There is however no word, if and when this device will be available with Ma Bell.

However the one that AT&T is selling has 64 gigs of storage (plus a micro-SD slot that can be used to expand the storage to 96 gigs) and an 11.6” screen with 1366 x 768 display.

One question remains to be answered though and that is whether consumers would be willing to shell out $800 for this device or go for something like a Surface, Nexus 10, or iPad.
