Microsoft Surface Tablet

Finally Microsoft jumped into the lucrative market of the tablet computer by unveiling its Surface tablet on June 19, 2012. The most astounding fact about the tablet is that Microsoft has not given this project to any of its hardware partners. Microsoft manufactured the whole tablet on its own and this has raised many questions. Well, here we are going to take a look at the hot new Surface tablet.

Microsoft unveiled two version of the Surface tablet. One version will be running Windows RT and the other version will be running Windows 8. Surface tablet with RT will have low hardware specifications. It will be lighter and will cost less than the Windows 8 Pro Surface. The other version, Surface Pro, will be running Windows 8. It will have high system specifications, will be heavier than other version and will cost more. The Surface pro will be the real deal for high computing needs.

A very hot question is that, “Is Microsoft’s Surface tablet PC the iPad killer?”. Well, while I’m writing the review for both the versions of the surface tablet it will be very spicy to compare them with the iPad 3. This will gives us an insight on how Microsoft came prepared to match with its main rival.

Microsoft tablet with Windows 8 will have Intel Core i5 and the other version with Windows RT will have nVidia ARM processor. iPad 3 has 1.0 Ghz Dual-core Apple A5X processor.

RAM is not disclosed by the company so we can’t say anything. However, the iPad 3 has 1GB of RAM.

MS Surface RT will weigh 676 grams and the Surface pro will weigh 903 grams. The iPad weighs 652 grams.

Thickness / Thinness

Surface RT will be 9.3mm thick and Surface Pro will be 13.5mm thick. The iPad 3 falls between the two version with 9.4mm thickness

Surface tablet with Windows RT will have 32GB or 64GB of storage. The storage space is similar to the iPad 3. While Surface tablet with Windows 8 pro will have 64GB or 128GB of storage.

Both of the Surface will have 10.6” ClearType HD Display. The iPad 3 has 9.7 inches screen. Currently there is no news related to the resolution the Surface tablet will have.

Microsoft’s Surface tablet will have cameras but the company was little quiet on the resolution of the cameras. The iPad has 5MP rear camera and 0.3 MP front camera.

Surface comes with two keyboards: Type cover and Touch cover. Both of the keyboards can be used as a cover, back cover or as a keyboard. Keyboard includes touch pad and left and right click buttons. They keyboards sticks with the tablet magnetically. You have to bring the keyboard near the end of the tablet and it will get stick to it. The iPad on the other hand doesn’t come with a keyboard. But you can purchase one for the iPad from the Apple’s store.

Surface tablet with Windows 8 pro is the real deal with a powerful processor, graphics card and RAM. With all these things it will be able to play current PC games that run on Windows 7. With keyboard Surface tablet will be very useful for those who do a lot of writing work. Lets see how much market Microsoft Surface tablet can snatch from the iPad.
