windows 8 tablet apps

In addition to the Surface RT tablet, Microsoft launched the Windows 8 OS on Thursday. During the Microsoft Surface tablet launch event, Steven Sinofsky of Microsoft revealed that there were more applications available for the latest version of its operating system compared to other OS when they were launched. However, the company did not give the exact number of applications available for the Windows 8 OS at the Windows Store.

Recently WinAppReport.com, a third party site, revealed the supposed exact number of applications available for the Windows 8 OS during its launch, according to report from neowin.net. The site indicated that 9,029 individual applications were available at the Windows Store during the launch of the OS. It does not include applications for the desktop, which can be downloaded from other sites even though it is listed on the Windows Store.

An earlier claim by the site had indicated that there were 7,873 applications available on Wednesday, which was higher compared to the 5,563 applications that were supposedly available at the Windows Store prior to the release of the Microsoft Surface tablet.

The site also revealed that the Windows Store in China has 5,553 applications, which is the biggest number among all localized apps. In comparison, the US Windows Store only has 5,179 applications. There are more than 4,000 localized applications available in each Windows Store marketplace. Around 83 percent of the applications are free although six percent are not compatible with the Windows RT.

Around 17 percent of the applications are Games, while Productivity, Entertainment and Productivity applications each make up 12 percent of the applications available for the Windows 8 OS. The availability of these applications may help increase the appeal of the Surface RT tablet of Microsoft in the market.
