Microsoft Windows RT

UPDATE: Jailbreak For Windows RT Applauded By Microsoft

A report from theverge.com revealed that  Windows RT of Microsoft was finally jailbroken. According to clrokr, a security researcher, a method was created that allows desktop apps to run on the ARM-based of Microsoft. It was discovered that the setting that prevents desktop applications from running on the OS may permit unsigned desktop apps to be used.

ARM-based desktop apps will be allowed to run on the Windows RT by the vulnerability if the setting in the memory is exploited. Although the jailbreak was discovered, x86 desktop apps cannot be used since it will be necessary for them to be compiled to ARM in order for them to run on Windows RT. Due to this, the exploit is still inadequate to a certain degree. It will be necessary to use the exploit every time the OS is booted since it will end once the device is reset.

Since battery life was highlighted by Microsoft on the Windows RT, desktop apps will be limited to the built-in apps and the Office 2013 RT. Once the limitation is removed, the battery life will be affected by the ARM desktop applications, which makes it unappealing to use. On the other hand, with the discovery of the jailbreak it is expected that a number of homebrew ARM-based apps will be used on the Windows RT in the coming future. For the moment, Microsoft is currently investigating the jailbreak on the Windows RT.
