Apps for Windows RT

The old Yahoo Mail is still going strong. A Comcast estimate recently puts the number of loyal Yahoo Mail followers to around 298 Million, something that should come as a novel surprise to one and all. In order to thank and reward those loyal followers Yahoo today announced a major refurbishment of the service including a new app designed specifically for the Windows 8 platform.

The Windows 8 app has been optimized for the potentials of the new platform. The design however retains much of the classic features of the Yahoo Mail service. However to take advantage of the home page live tiles feature, the app has an option to display notifications on the home screen for new emails. Additionally when typing in email addresses the app offers auto-completion for all emails that are there in the Yahoo Mail contact list. A continuous scrolling feature lets users to scan through email messages quickly. Yahoo has recently released new apps for iPhone, iPods and also launched a new revamped app for Android.

For those anxious to start using the new interface of Yahoo Mail, it is due to go live in the next few days. Yahoo Mail’s revamp came close on the heels of similar updates from Microsoft’s Outlook.com service in July and AOL Mail’s update the same month.
