Sony windows 8 Tablet

Confirming the leak this week, Sony has issued a press release stating the company has a Windows 8 Tablet hybrid on the horizon. The release listed all the features and specs of the Sony VAIO Duo 11; both in common with and different from what we presently know about the Microsoft Surface tablet. The biggest difference that stands out is the VAIO Duo 11’s “Surf Slider” – a back-lit keyboard that slides away when a user prefers tablet functionality. Also confirmed in the release was the fact that the unit will not be a Windows RT device but offered in both Windows 8 and Windows 8 Pro.

The VAIO Duo 11 will come with a peripheral input device in the form of a digital pen. The digitizer stylus is pressure sensitive and provides users a choice of swappable pen tips for a firm or softer writing feel. A practical application available for this input device recognizes that you are writing and ignores the weight of your hand on the touchscreen. This 1920 x 1080 pixel, Full HD touchscreen measures 11.6 inches (29.4 cm). The overall dimensions of the unit are 12.6 inch x 0.7 inch x 7.8 inch (320 mm x 17.85 mm x 199 mm) and it weighs about 3 lbs (1.3 kg). This is significantly more than Microsoft Surface tablet’s weight of just under 2 lbs (0.9 kg). Although with a choice of 4GB or 8GB RAM and 128GB or 256GB SSD the Sony Ultrabook PC will be a compelling little unit.

The Sony VAIO Duo 11 hybrid Ultrabook PC will be coming to market at the end of October (depending on country), in union with the anticipated release of the Microsoft Surface tablet.
