Acer Windows 8 Tablet

A recent report from Wall Street Journal revealed that an Acer tablet priced at $99 will be released in the coming year. The Acer Iconia B1 tablet will go up against a number of China-made devices that are currently sold in a number of developing countries. It will feature specs similar to the Amazon Kindle Fire with its 1.2GHz dual-core processor and seven-inch display with a 1024 by 600 resolution.

It is uncertain if the Acer Iconia B1 will be sold in the US. Last week, pictures of the device were reportedly posted on a forum in Serbia. The authenticity of the pictures was verified by the sources of the report.

On the other hand, Asus reportedly indicated that it was not developing a similar product even as sources have indicated that the Acer Iconia B1 is set to go up against a product from the Taiwanese company.

Speculations have emerged indicating the possibility that a Google Nexus tablet with a $99 price tag may be offered in the market. And it appears that Asus may be set on offering a low-priced successor to the $199 Google Nexus 7 tablet.

In contrast, Acer was expected to offer a low-priced tablet following its announcement that it will offer the Acer Iconia A110, an Android tablet using the Tegra 3 processor, under the Kai program of Nvidia. However, the $199 goal for the tablet was not attained by the company. In addition to the Acer Iconia B1 tablet, the company will reportedly unveil a low-cost Windows 8 tablet in the coming year since the current products in the market are supposedly expensive.
